About Us

Geelong Sewing Centre was opened by Robin Cobb and Paul Volta in January 2005 when Stan Tucker and Daughters closed after more than 70 years of service to the area. Paul sold out to Robin in January 08 and the business continues on in its present format.

Robin Cobb
Robin has had more than 27yrs experience in having started in the Sewing Machine industry in 1981 as a Consultant with Janome in Myer Geelong, she moved on to work as Promotional Rep for Janome before leaving to open her own business Twin City Sewing Centre in Wodonga, Victoria in 1991 which she owned and operated until it was sold in 1999. After moving back to Geelong Robin was an Area Manager for VSM Sewing Machines from 1999, and left when she and Paul opened Geelong Sewing Centre.

John Thorpe
John is our technician and he worked with Stan for 8 years prior to joining us. John began his apprenticeship in the UK and completed it here in Geelong he has had 27 years in the industry during which he trained 3 other apprentices.  John takes pride in his work and lets nothing beat him, your machine will always be in the best hands here. Since joining Geelong Sewing Centre John has also enjoyed working in the shop when the need is there.

Rhonda Hodgson
Rhonda recently joined the team at Geelong Sewing Centre, she has many years of experience in the clothing and sewing machine industry.  She utilises her experience through teaching and supporting classes.  Her knowledge in machine embroidery and sewing will most certainly be beneficial to all at Geelong Sewing Centre.  Her passion is to help people create a more user friendly relationship with their machines and overlockers.
